Ideas dreamily wait to be born. Typography brings them into the world.
The written word becomes flesh in the same way that our own bodies write their own stories : identity, expression, inscription, cosmetic or prosthetic, the ways we build our selves in our relation to others are played out within the intimacy of our signs and symbols. These leave their trace, and they can either affirm or betray us.
This incarnation reminds us of our true nature : the written form. This too has its seasons, its cycles and its renewals. Within the body of the written form are laid down the sedimentary layers of our history, with its pain, its pleasures, its declines and its re-births. New (type)faces, new bodies : at the very moment when the digital metamorphosis of the written form makes all of us ask questions, from 19th to 25th of August 2012, typographers, graphic artists and researchers in Lurs will be celebrating sixty years of examining the written form, and of sharing their savoir-faire.
